We are proud to announce!

We are now working with Collaborative Partners Initiative to bring financial aid to the community.

Working Families: Claim Your Free Tax Credit!

The RISE Center and Collaborative Partners Initiative (CPIN) are teaming up to help working families claim the Working Families Tax Credit. This tax credit helps working families get money back on the taxes they’ve already paid. This year, they are hosting free tax filing and informational events across the South Sound.

Gerald Daniels, Executive Director of the RISE Center of Hilltop, reflects on the words of Lyndon B. Johnson as he considers the benefits and impact of the Working Families Tax Credit program, “We must open the doors of opportunity. But we must also equip our people to walk through those doors.” Daniels adds, “At the RISE Center, we work with families in need everyday and working families are the heartbeat of or our communities.”

“We are so excited to be working with the RISE Center of Hilltop and helping families across the South Sound maximize their tax refunds. Getting money in working families’ pockets at this time of year is so important. So far this year we have helped over 15 families claim this credit, which gives them $100’s or even $1,000’s of extra dollars in their pockets,” said Angela Silva, CEO of CPIN.

What is the Working Families Tax Credit Program? This is a new program from Washington State that supports low to moderate income families by returning a portion of sales tax to them. If a family typically qualifies for the Earned Income Tax Credit, they will qualify for the Working Families Tax Credit. The maximum credit ranges from $315 -$1255 depending on the number of qualifying children.

What are we doing?

We are helping people get money in their pocket and maximize their tax return. As community grantee partners, CPIN and RISE are getting the word out to people in Pierce, Thurston, and Lewis Counties by hosting informational workshops about this tax credit and providing free tax filing help for individuals/families that qualify.

Who is eligible for this tax credit program? Individuals and families are eligible for the Working Families Tax Credit if they meet the following requirements:

  • Have a valid Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Need an ITIN, we can help you file this

  • Lived in Washington a minimum of 183 days in 2023 (over half the year).

  • Are at least 25 and under 65 years of age OR have a qualifying child in 2023.
